Research on the History of Japanese from a Typological Perspective
My research focuses on the historical development of the grammatical case system in Japanese and its relation to word order and other syntactic phenomena. I apply the insights of linguistic typology and generative syntactic theory to the empirical investigation of changes in the case and pronominal systems, changes in word order and related topics in earlier Japanese.Work on this research is supported by grants-in-aid for scientific research from the Japan Society for the Promotion of Science.
